I haven't had any trouble with the Nu-Bird Suction Mirror at all. It’s been great and most of my patients seem to prefer it. Recently I changed jobs and now work in a new dental office. Problem was I was stuck working the traditional way of hygiene without the Nu-Bird Suction Mirrors because I had to leave them with my previous dental office. One of my patients who I worked on from the old office followed me to the new office told me they only wanted me to work on them if I would use the Nu-Bird suction mirror system and gave me enough money to purchase some new Nu-Bird mirrors!!!
Can you believe it??? Now I just have to get the other hygienists to try it!

I' ve been using these high volume products for almost 4 years now and I wouldn't practice without it! It's a time saver, great suction while debriding the distals of molars and S2/S5, and the clients love it!

We all realize that HVE is the gold standard for infection control in an aerosol environment and I have to applaud the effort and foresight of the hygienists who developed the 'Nu-Bird' mirror system. I own my own DH clinic in Canada and have been using the Hammerhead system for awhile - I am virtually 100% ultrasonic instrumentation and air polishing. Water and aerosol control have long been an issue for dental hygiene ergonomics and patient comfort - the Nu-Bird has proven to be an effective adjunct for the dental hygienist and comfortable for the patient while helping us to maintain better ergonomics.

Face it ... we will all be working longer than we originally thought . In each of my operatories. I also have a right angle HVE and use the Pelotte Plus (sterilizable wide opening pedo suction) - this is a good alternative for larger pieces of calculus - however, I have not had a problem with calculus getting into the openings of the Nu-Bird. I run a cleaning solution through the hammerhead and hose prior to sterilization. With air polishing - you may have to change the mirror more often than using it for straight ultrasonic instrumentation (although I haven't noticed a big difference myself). If you keep the Nu-Bird tilted slightly towards and above the air polish spray pattern it is quite effective - I also give my patients the saliva ejector to do with as they please! In addition, I find that for hygienists transitioning toward more ultrasonic use and air polishing, it makes for an easier transition with less frustration and improved clinical effectiveness. Any device that can make our jobs easier while being safe, is ok with me. I also like that the mirrors are easily changeable.

I really enjoy all the interaction of Hygiene Town and the great advice of my colleagues - thank you all.

I have 14 years experience in both general and perio practice, I have always struggled with indirect vision for the mand linguals and thought I just couldn't do it--well actually
I can-- I just never had the right tool.

The Nu-Bird, formally known as Hammer Head, is EXCEEDING my expectations!!!

Anyway I LOVE it-used it with every patient. I'm so used to holding a suction AND a mirror in my left hand--flipping back and forth that I went to pick up my reg mirror a couple times out of habit.

By the end of the week it'll be second nature. FINALLY a mirror that I can use for indirect vision on mand ant ling when people have that strong chin reflex--my last patient I fulcrum on the max teeth, the light on my lopes gave me great light reflected in the mirror and the strong chin wasn't even an issue as I wasn't fighting to hold suction, trying to hold the chin back to get good light reflected in a crappy little hand mirror.
Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!

Needless to say, amazing!!! I went at least 10x faster because I did not have to stop once to clean the mirror. My hygienist used it for sealants. She could not stop talking about it I will be showing this to my laser course next week. I would not be shocked if it sold out.

You guys cannot limit this to hygiene, every dentist needs this If you have any powerpoint slides, order forms etc please send them, I am looking forward to helping you promote this.
I am going to need more handles!!!.

Since installing the Nu-Bird system, my hygienists and I are now using them on nearly every patient. Even when we have an assistant, having the Nu-Bird instead of just a mirror significantly improves chair side efficiency. For me, it often frees my assistant to do other things rather than retract/suction. In other cases, having both of us with suction reduces those times when our patient struggles with fluids in the back of their mouth. My hygienists will not practice without them! It makes retraction and suctioning when using ultrasonics and the prophy jet much more efficient and comfortable for the patient. The Nu-Bird seems well constructed and I believe it will prove to be very durable.

All in all a great addition to our practice.

I really like it. I do feel it saves time. How much I am not sure but some. My patients also feel more comfortable. Ergonomically, the hose does give one options with chair and patient positioning.

It is a dream to use for evacuation in the anterior - especially mandibular. I will need to fool around with this a bit because I am a traditionalist with seating positions and my operatory set up is limiting. I would love to keep it and I assure you it will not sit in a drawer.
I work with three other hygienists in private practice and I would love for them to use it and have our patients benefit.

Congratulations on such a great invention.

“I have been using the product you sent me and I LOVE IT!!!!! It is my new BFF!

My experience is that the Nu-Bird, formerly known as Hammer Head, is significantly better than any other HVE system I have ever used......I AM HOOKED!”

“I just have to write to you to tell you how wonderful the hammerhead suction is!!
I bought it and wonder why after 35+ years I could not have thought of this! I can't imagine working without this now.

I really want to share this in my upcoming lecture.”

"Best suction mirror on the market"

Definitely Recommend

Considering the Hammerhead mirror suction system?
I work full time as an RDH in a General Dental practice. I tried the Nu-Bird Suction Mirror prior to purchase with the 30 day risk free 'try it you will like it" and I can say the following:

  1. The product keeps the field clear and uses HVAC well.
  2. Patients report a positive comfort level during treatment, (the product does not feel to big/ or fail to clear the fluids quickly).
  3. Construction, is of high quality.
  4. Mirror resolution is not sacrificed and when damaged the mirror is replaceable making the handle portion an asset that will be in your patient care kit for YEARS.
  5. Set up and maintenance is easy/ I can change the mirror from the HVAC to the saliva ejector in two seconds and back again if necessary.
  6. Ergonomics is actually better. Managing the HVAC alone for retraction has always been somewhat awkward and the HVAC hose has a lot a drag on retraction arm (even when cheating and draping it over shoulder to give it more support).
  7. It is a pleasure to use as I CAN SEE the very back sides of the back teeth while using my cavitron and stay in the pocket while not compromising patient comfort or standing on my head (the Hygiene providers reading this will know exactly what I am referring to).
Finally, I am not affiliated with Nu-Bird Dental Designs, am not being compensated for my review, and my Dentist purchased the set up because I asked him. The product has made RPC procedures way more fun to the point of spontaneous happy dancing when a particularly difficult deposit is evicted. How many Dentist can say their Hygiene providers do happy dances during the most difficult of procedures. Try the product it sells itself, I would not have asked for a set up without trying it and it works way better than other similar products that I have used and abandoned because they were more hassle than benefit.

I tried the Nu-Bird suction system and LOVED it! The contact person, Laura, is extremely helpful with tips on using the product and troubleshooting if you experience any issues. She also has great follow-up via email/and or text. There is a definite learning curve with the Nu-Bird and I found the tubing to be a little stiff and heavy. Also took some getting used to in the labial anteriors as it's thicker than your average mirror. You also have to be comfortable in using indirect vision. You need to give yourself some time to get used to it. The patients that I used the product on absolutely loved it and found that it worked well and I didn't have any issues with elderly patients feeling like they were "drowning." It doesn't leave a mark and suck up tissue like your typical suction tip, it's not noisy and you can adjust the suction volume. I used the product on High Volume suction with no issues. Visibility is also very good as it draws up the water and spray quite well and I didn't have any issues with the system clogging like my Dentist claimed would happen. Product works esp. well in those patients with missing posterior teeth, those with thick tongues and the elderly. I didn't have a chance to use it with sealants.

Would definitely recommend this product!!

This product is an asset.

I have been using this mirror and have not noticed calc catching in the suction holes. I also had a concern about debris. I tried the mirror before committing to a purchase and am satisfied that ultrasonic treatment prior to autoclave removes the visible gross debris. Consider the grooves and texture of some of the other dental equipment in use. Like extraction and surgical set ups, some have topography that promotes ergonomics and control for the operator. The suction mirror while not used like a dental surgical instrument does not seem to present a more profound challenge to the autoclave than any other dental set up and some of those come into more intimate contact with the patient than a mirror.

I like this product, it aids ergonomics (good for me), and patient comfort, good for them, also good for me. I had to try it first as new gadgets always make me a little skeptical, but, for me it works great. I know this comment might not change your concern about infection control, and I respect that. As hygiene providers, those in our care our primary concern. A product that enhances that care without challenging personal conviction is an asset in our care box.

For me this product is an asset.
